Doing Business As

Corporations, LLCs, LLPs, and limited partnerships register an assumed name as part of their required business filings with the Georgia Secretary of State, Corporations Division . The cost for a DBA Filing is $100 plus state and/or county fees, any publication fees and a $25 name check fee in states where applicable. Sole proprietorships should file a trade name certificate with the Secretary of State. If you are a sole proprietor and you choose to operate your business under a name other than your personal name, you will need to register that name with the state, county and/or local jurisdictions in which the business operates. If you work for or own a corporation, or an LLC, for marketing purposes you may choose to operate under a name that is different from the original legal name of your business. Compared to corporations and partnerships, the LLC is a relatively new business entity. These jurisdictions often refer to alternate name registrations as Doing Business As (DBA) filings or Fictitious Business Name (FBN) filings. Do you find this valuable?
